HOW LIRA NGO FORUM IS INVOLVED IN PROMOTING A COMMUNITY LED APPROACH TO ENERGY DEVELOPMENT

Energy Governance
 LNF promotes inclusive and sustainable energy governance for the under-represented and marginalized energy end-users.
 LNF mobilizes community members to discuss energy needs that affect them and share with the DLG and other stakeholders with goodwill
Community Barazas – Community Information Forums
 LNF supports communities to develop local solutions to energy challenges. In November 2019, a community Baraza was successfully organized in Amuca parish in Lira sub county. A key milestone realized was that the community members agreed to involve the local leaders in developing by-laws that protect energy resources and promote consumption of clean energy
Research on energy
 LNF conducts community research on energy interventions, develops learning toolkits, concept notes, developing research projects: for example, a recent research involved evaluating the impact of using firewood as a source of energy on primary school pupils between primary 5 and 7 in selected schools across Lira district. The outcome of the research attested that most school going pupils use firewood as a source of energy at home and at school. They also use kerosene (paraffin lamps) for lighting which is a health risk
Strengthening CSO coordination and capacity development
 Coordinating CSOs that promote community energy development and environmental conservation
Advocacy, lobbying and leveraging energy policies
 LNF promotes energy advocacy, lobbying and policy engagements at both local and sub national level
Promoting social innovation for projects
 Incubating projects and models that can be tested for community energy interventions
